North Bengal Landslide Updates: In the last 24 hours, torrential rains in many districts of North Bengal caused widespread chaos. Due to heavy rains, minor landslides in many areas were uprooted, water was flooded in low -lying areas and damage to houses. According to IMD, rain will continue in North Bengal and Sikkim for the next few days. Landslides occurred in Shwetjhora on the banks of NH10 due to heavy rains. This area is about 35 km from Siliguri. Traffic was affected until the debris was removed due to landslides.

Landslide due to heavy rains in North Bengal

Many parts of North Bengal received continuous rain with strong winds for more than 24 hours, causing landslides on Wednesday, damage to houses, trees were uprooted and many towns caused severe waterlogging. Two people, including a six-year-old girl, died in separate incidents of landslides in Darjeeling district.

Sources in the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that till Wednesday morning, Darjeeling received about 72 mm in 24 hours, 64 mm in Siliguri and 63 mm in Malda.Two people, including a minor girl, were buried alive in the rubble under the jurisdiction of the Pulbazar police station in Darjeeling district.In Bari Jamuni, 32 -year -old excavation driver Pranit Jogo died of debris. 6 -year -old Samanta Subba died in the debris in Lower Goka.
According to The Telegraph Online, the weather centers recorded 72 mm in Darjeeling, 64 mm in Siliguri and 63 mm in Malda. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert in the coming days, fearing more heavy rains in North Bengal and neighboring Sikkim.
In Darjeeling, a minor landslide occurred in several municipal wards, which blocked the major roads and damaged the property. Rongli was damaged by a house falling in a tree in Takdah of Rongali Rongaliot block. Landslides are also reported at Pulung Dong Tea Bagan of Sukhiapokhari block. An accident occurred in Charachare Bari Jamune of Pulabazar police station area, where 32 -year -old excavation driver Pranit Jogo was buried in the rubble.
 
In a separate incident in Lower Goka, six -year -old Samanta Subba also died under similar circumstances. The Telegraph Online quoted a source in the Darjeeling District Disaster Management Office as saying that there was strong winds and heavy rains on the hills since Tuesday evening. The Tenzing Norge Road in Darjeeling was blocked due to landslides in the morning, which was reopened by a quick response team of the Department of Civil Protection Department after the removal of debris in the afternoon.
