The school building was about 100 years old and unauthorized construction work was being done in it. The building collapsed when students were offering afternoon prayers in a boarding school room. Most of the people who were victims of the accident were students. The death of at least three students has been confirmed and 100 others have been injured. The National Disaster Management Agency revised the number of people buried in the debris 38 late on Tuesday night to 91.According to BNBP spokesperson Abdul Mohuri, the building collapsed due to not being able to bear the burden of new construction work on the fourth floor of the school by its foundation pillars.

He demanded strict security standards and urged the public and building managers to more carefully monitor the construction processes to prevent such incidents.Local media reports quoted a school officer as saying that the construction work was going on for the last nine months.

Loose construction standards have created widespread concerns about building safety in Indonesia, where it is common to leave structures – especially houses incomplete, which allows owners to create additional floors when they get their budget permission later.Earlier this month, at least three people died and dozens were injured when the building organized in West Java collapsed.
