A petition related to Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship was heard on Monday in the Lucknow High Court. A division bench of Justice AR Masudi and Justice Ajay Kumar Srivastava directed the state government to file a status report in four weeks. The government had sought 8 weeks. The next hearing will be held on 21 April.

Earlier, on 19 December 2024, there was a hearing in the court. The bench of Justice Rajan Roy and Justice Om Prakash Shukla directed Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Suryabhan Pandey to get information from the Union Home Ministry in the matter.

What is being investigated in the whole case. We will prepare and present its complete report in 8 weeks. The court gave time.

Claim of the petitioner- Rahul Gandhi is a British citizen

Petitioner Karnataka resident S.K. Vignesh Shishir has claimed in the petition that Rahul Gandhi is a British citizen. His Indian citizenship should be canceled. He has collected some emails and documents of the British government. These are proof of Rahul Gandhi’s alleged British citizenship. The court can pronounce the verdict on this today.

Disqualified

The petition stated that Rahul Gandhi is disqualified to contest elections due to dual citizenship. They cannot hold the post of Lok Sabha member. The petitioner has demanded the release of the Rights Page Wit against Rahul’s being in the post of MP.

CBI inquiry demands

In the petition, dual citizenship has been described as a crime under the Code of India and Passport Act. A CBI inquiry has also been demanded in this case. The petitioner said that he sent a complaint twice to the competent authority in the case. He has filed this petition if no action is taken.
