The 33 -year -old Democratic Socialist MP Zoharan Mamdani has won the Democratic Primary for the Mayor of New York City. His rival and Andrew Cumo accepted the defeat late on Tuesday night and said that he called to congratulate Mamdani. Kuoomo said at the headquarters of New York City Carpenter Union that tonight was not our night and I am very proud of the campaign we run. According to the New York City Board of Election, Mammadani won 43.5 percent of the votes for the first place, while Kuomom got 36.3 percent of the votes. The board is expected to announce the full results of the election on 1 July, which uses a ranked choice voting, which allows the people of New York to choose five candidates in order of preference.

What did Mamdani say after the victory?
Mamdani said in a speech to the supporters. Tonight, we created history. I will be your Democratic Party candidate for the post of Mayor of New York City. If Mamdani wins this election, he will become the first Muslim and Indian-American mayor of New York City. The winner of the primary election will face existing Mayor Eric Adams, who is originally a Democrat but is now contesting as an independent candidate. Adams has decided to contest elections as an independent amidst the huge displeasure of the public for the case of corruption against him.

Who is Johran Mamdani
Let us tell you that Mamdani is the son of Indian filmmaker Meera Nair and Mahmood Mamdani, an educationist of Uganda of Indian origin. Mamdani was born and raised in Kampala, Uganda and at the age of seven he moved to Zoh New York City with his family. He has graduated from NYC Public School and studied at Brox High School of Science. Mamdani has received a bachelor’s degree in African Studies from Bodine College.
