MLA Harmeet Singh Sandhu, who won the Tarn Taran Vidhan Sabha by-elections, has taken the oath of MLA post today. He met CM Bhagwant Mann before taking oath. Chandigarh-based Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Sandhwa administered the oath of office to Harmeet Sandhu in his chamber. Many senior leaders of Aam Aadmi Party were present on this occasion. Harmeet Singh Sandhu left the Akali Dal and joined the Aam Aadmi Party a few months before the elections.
Aam Aadmi Party’s Kashmir Singh Sohal won and became an MLA in Tarn Taran seat in the elections held in 2022, but he died this year due to illness. After this this seat became vacant. The Aam Aadmi Party inducted Shiromani Akali Dal leader Harmeet Sangh Sandhu into the party and made it a candidate in the by-elections.
He won this election with 12091 votes. Sukhwinder Kaur of Shiromani Akali Dal was in second place. This election is being considered as a comeback for the Akali Dal in Punjab politics as the performance of the party was better.
Let us tell you that Harmeet Singh Sandhu has been an MLA from Tarn Taran three times. He was also Chief Parliamentary Secretary in the Punjab Government twice. He lost in 2017 and 2022. He joined the Aam Aadmi Party in July 2025 and became the constituency in-charge. Be active on the issue of social development and roads. Harmeet Sandhu’s experience will strengthen AAP’s strategy, but Congress and Akali Dal candidates are also strong.
