A fierce stampede occurred on Sunday morning at the famous Mansa Devi temple located in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, killing at least six devotees and many others were seriously injured. The injured are being admitted to local hospitals for immediate treatment. There is an atmosphere of mourning in the state after this tragic incident.
The cause of the event and the initial information
According to preliminary information, due to the month of Shravan, there was a huge crowd of devotees in the Mansa Devi temple. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pramendra Singh Doval said that after the rumor of electric shock on the stairs about 100 meters below the stampede temple route, there was a rumor. This rumor caused chaos among the people, resulting in a stampede-like situation. However, intensive investigation by the police is underway to confirm the exact and detailed causes of the stampede.
SSP Doval informed, ‘We were reported to be injured by some people, after which the police immediately took action. Around 35 people were brought to the hospital, and unfortunately, six people have been confirmed. The rest of the injured are undergoing treatment.

Chief Minister’s cognizance and relief work
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has taken cognizance of this accident immediately. He said in a post on social media platform ‘X’ that the state disaster response force (SDRF), local police and other rescue teams have reached the spot and relief and rescue operations are going on fast.
Chief Minister Dhami wrote, ‘SDRF, local police and other rescue teams have reached the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue operations. I am in constant contact with the local administration about this matter and the situation is being closely monitored. He has instructed the administration to provide proper treatment of the injured and to provide all possible assistance to the families of the deceased.
Statement of eyewitnesses
A devotee, who was injured in this stampede, told his objection, “Suddenly there was a huge crowd and a stampede occurred. During this time I fell and my hand broke.” The horrors of the incident can be gauged from his statement.
