Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Harsh Shanghvi took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat on Friday. A day before this, all the 16 ministers of the state had resigned except Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel for the cabinet reshuffle.
Sanghvi, who won the Majura constituency in the 2022 Gujarat Assembly elections by defeating Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate PVS Sarma by 1,16,675 votes, took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat at a ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar in the presence of Governor Acharya Devvrat.

Gujarat’s BJP government on Friday formed a new 26-member cabinet, with state Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi taking oath as the Deputy Chief Minister and cricketer Ravindra Jadeja’s wife Rivaba Jadeja as the minister. Sanghvi, who won a landslide victory in the 2022 assembly elections by defeating the AAP candidate by more than one lakh votes, took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel at the Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar in the presence of Governor Acharya Devvrat.
The new cabinet includes many familiar faces, with six ministers returning: Hrishikesh Patel, Kanubhai Desai, Kunwarji Bavaliya, Prafulla Panseria, Purushottam Solanki and Sanghvi himself.

Four ministers who retained their portfolios – Hrishikesh Patel, Kanubhai Desai, Kunwarji Bavaliya and Purushottam Solanki (minister of state) – did not take oath again as their positions remain unchanged.
Trikam Chhanga, Swaroopji Thakor, Praveen Mali, Hrishikesh Patel, PC Baranda, Darshan Vaghela, Kantilal Amritiya, Arjunbhai Modhwadia, Dr. Pradyumna Waja, Kaushik Vekaria, Jitendrabhai Vaghani, Ramanbhai Solanki, Kamleshbhai Patel, Sanjay Singh Mahida, Rameshbhai Katara, Prafulla Panseria, Manisha Vakil, Ishwar Singh Patel, Dr. Jairambhai Gambit, Nareshbhai Patel are the new leaders who were inducted into the cabinet today.

The cabinet reshuffle in Gujarat today marked the biggest reshuffle in the state since September 2021, when former chief minister Vijay Rupani and his entire cabinet resigned, reportedly following instructions from the BJP high command.
The swearing-in ceremony was held after Bhupendra Patel apprised Governor Devvrat about the current status of the Gujarat Cabinet. On Thursday, all 16 ministers except the Chief Minister had submitted their resignations.
Gujarat, which has a 182-member assembly, can have a maximum of 27 ministers (15 per cent of the total strength of the House).
