The Delhi High Court on Thursday canceled 16 cases registered against 70 Indian citizens, which was accused of sheltering the attendees of Tabligi Jamaat in their homes or mosques during the Kovid-19 outbreak in 2020. Policemen also registered the names of 195 foreign nationals. Neither the charge sheet was filed against most foreign nationals nor the lower court refused to take cognizance of the charge sheet based on the principle of double threat. These persons approached the High Court demanding the cancellation of the FIR lodged in 2021. He said that prohibitory orders only stop religious meetings and ceremonies and only provide shelter to the attendees. He further claimed that the FIRs are inappropriate, concocted and lawless and have been forced to face unfair and baseless allegations, which is a violation of his personal freedom.

The Delhi Police had opposed the petitions, saying that the accused have not only violated the prohibition issued by the Delhi government, but also contributed to the spread of the disease.
