Governor’s seal: Uttarakhand Madrasa Board dissolved, now minority education authority will be commanded.

Uttarakhand Governor Lt Gen Gurmeet Singh (retired) on Monday approved the Uttarakhand Minority Education Bill, 2025 with the aim of including minority educational institutions in the mainstream education system. After the implementation of this bill, the Madrasa Board will end and all the madrasas operating in the state will have to get recognition from the Uttarakhand Minority Education Authority and have to be affiliated to the Uttarakhand School Education Board. Utarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami appreciated Governor Singh for approving the bill and said that the new law would make the state’s education system transparent, accountable and qualitative.

Dhami said in the post on X that with the approval of the Hon’ble Governor, now the way for the law of this bill has been paved. Under this law, an authority will be established for the education system of minority communities, which will handle the task of recognizing minority educational institutions. In addition, after the implementation of this bill, it will be mandatory for minority educational institutions like madrasas to get recognition from the Uttarakhand Education Board. After the bill is approved by the state assembly, Uttarakhand will become the first state in the country to dissolve its madrasa board. According to a press release by the Chief Minister’s Office, the bill is part of the government’s efforts to bring minority institutions into the mainstream education system and ensure quality education in them.

Appreciating the initiative, Chief Minister Dhami announced that from the academic session of July 2026, all minority schools will adopt the outline of National Curriculum (NCF) and the new education policy (NEP 2020). Chief Minister Dhami stressed that the government aims to ensure that every child of the state, whether it is of any class or community, moves forward with equal education and equal opportunities. Under this new law, an authority will be established to monitor the education system of minority communities. This authority will be responsible for recognizing minority educational institutions.
