New Delhi. Google has been working on a UPI soundbox for Google Pay in India for some time now. It will alert the merchants on digital payment. According to the report, these soundpods have been prepared by Amazon-backed ToneTag. Google is marketing it as Soundpod by Google Pay. These soundboxes have been distributed in some places including Delhi as an experiment.

A Google spokesperson has said that we are experimenting with many different solutions to make digital payments more convenient and comfortable for users and merchants.

There will also be a QR code on the SoundPod
The SoundPod will also have a merchant QR code linked to the Google Pay for Business account. According to a report by TechCrunch, this device will have an in-built speaker which will give information about payment in different languages. Not only this, there will also be a small LCD panel, which will tell the payment amount, battery and network status.

However, NFC will not be supported in this soundbox. Because tap-and-pay mode is not used for transactions in India. Similarly, NFC hardware is not integrated even in low-end smartphones. Users will be able to pay from any UPI based app through the QR code present in the soundbox.

Google has been competing in India’s payments market for some time now and SoundPod is an essential tool for mobile payments in India. Google has to compete with Paytm, PhonePe and BharatPe in the Indian market. These companies have already launched soundbox in the market. With its help, the process of digital payment becomes much easier. In such a situation, now Google is also launching it.
