Amid growing public concern, the Delhi government has postponed the policy of seizure of the end of life vehicle (EOL) only two days after his implementation was implemented. The move has been taken in the national capital following a comprehensive response to the residents on the fuel ban for the ‘End of Life Vehicle (EOL) and criticism by opposition leaders. Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa has written a letter to the Air Quality Management Commission (CAQM) asking him to postpone the instructions not to fuel EOL vehicles in the city.

Sirsa said that the Chief Minister of Delhi has assured the residents that old vehicles will not be arbitrarily confiscated. We will not allow old vehicles to be confiscated. Also, we are committed to controlling pollution in Delhi. He said that residents of Delhi are already facing problems related to end-of-life vehicles. The government has written a letter to the Chairman of the CAQM (Air Quality Management Commission) saying that it lacks the necessary infrastructure to implement the policy.

The minister said that the owners of the old trains are getting fuel from neighboring cities of Delhi like Noida, Faridabad, Gurugram etc. while there is no such policy there. The government has suggested that the ban should be implemented in the National Capital Region (NCR), he said and criticized the government last for setting “stringent criteria” for old trains. Sirsa claimed that the ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) cameras are not working properly, loudspeakers are poor and there is no coordination with vehicles data in Delhi-NCR. He added, “There are many technical disturbances and the government has no real -time system to inform citizens about their vehicles being marked as EOL.”
