Before the meeting of Ajit Agarkar -led Selection Committee to choose India’s Asia Cup team, T20 International Captain Suryakumar Yadav has passed his fitness test at the ‘BCCI Center of Excellence’ in Bengaluru. Suryakumar was last played in the IPL and was elected ‘Player of the Series’.The aggressive batsman underwent ‘sports hernia’ surgery in the lower right stomach in Munich, Germany in June.
A BCCI source told PTI, “Fitness test is mandatory before the return to play-RTP after surgery. Suryakumar has passed the fitness test. After surgery, Suryakumar posted on Instagram, “Sports hernia underwent surgery in the lower right part of the stomach. It is happy to say that I am already recovering after surgery. I am eagerly waiting for the return. ”
After achieving fitness, this stylish batsman will now attend the selection committee meeting in Mumbai on Tuesday. The Asia Cup will be played in the UAE from September 9 to 28, in which India will start their campaign against the hosts on September 10, while the match against the arch -rivals Pakistan will be held in Dubai on 14 September.
The 34 -year -old player scored 717 runs in a brilliant performance in the IPL season and became the second batsman for Mumbai Indians to score more than 600 runs in a session after Sachin Tendulkar. He lagged behind Sai Sudarshan (759 runs) of the ‘Orange Cap’ winner Gujarat Titans and played a key role in taking Mumbai Indians to the playoffs where the team defeated Gujarat in Eliminator but then lost to Punjab Kings in another qualifier.
Soon after, he played for ‘Triumph Nights Mumbai North East’ in T20 Mumbai League and scored 122 runs in five innings. It is not clear whether the pain of hernia increases or not during this period. Suryakumar also had ankle surgery and sports hernia operation in 2023.
