The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has issued a show cause notice to actress Ranya Rao in the sensational gold smuggling case. The agency has directed the actress to pay a fine of ₹ 102.55 crore after the completion of the justice process. This notice was given to Ranya Rao and three other accused in jail. According to officials, their property can be attached if the fine is not paid. The action is part of the ongoing investigation in the case of more than 127.3 kg of gold smuggling, in which the actress was arrested on 4 March.

Ranya Rao was given conditional bail in an alleged case of gold smuggling on 20 May by the Economic Offenses Court. Despite the bail, he is in custody under Cofeposa (Prevention of Foreign Exchange Protection and Prevention of Smuggling Activities). Earlier, on August 11, Ranya Rao’s half -father Ramchandra Rao, who was sent on compulsory leave, was reinstated to the post of Director General of Police of the Civil Rights Enforcement Directorate and withdrew his leave. The Under Secretary of the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms said that the post of Police, Director General of Police, Civil Rights Enforcement Directorate, under Rule 12 of IPS (Pay) Rules 2016, as included in Schedule II of the said rule, has been declared in equivalent status and responsibilities for the post of cadre of Bangalore, Director General of Police, Criminal Investigation Department, Special Investigation Department, Special Units and Economic Offenses, Bangalore.
