In South Goa, police arrested three people after the waste material (Ambergris) emitted by a whale worth Rs 10 crore. An official gave this information on Friday.
On the basis of secret information, the police stopped a car in Sangum village on Thursday and recovered 5.75 kg ‘Ambergris’, which is used to make perfumes.
‘Ambergris’ is produced in the intestines of the sperm whale, which is preserved under Schedule 2 of the Wildlife Protection Act. This means that any of its sub -products or its business is restricted in India.
Police spokesperson said that the price of this waste material emitted by Whale could be around Rs 10 crore in the international market. He said that those arrested have been identified as Sainath Shet (50) and Ratnakant Karapurkar (55) of Goa and Yogesh Redkar (40), residents of Sindhudurg in Maharashtra. The official said the investigation is on to find out where ‘Ambergris’ came from.
