Ghana drowned in mourning after the death of eight people, including two major cabinet ministers in a military helicopter crash. The government, confirming the death of Defense Minister Edward Oman Bohar and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammad, described the incident as a national tragedy. According to the Ghana Armed Forces, the Z-9 utility helicopter flew from the capital Akra in the morning and left for Obuasi, a major gold mining center in the region. However, shortly after flying, the aircraft disappeared from the radar. The cause of the accident is not yet known. According to reports, the sudden death of ministers has created significant flaws in security and environmental policy. Doctor -turned -politician Defense Minister Edward Oman Boamaah recently strengthened the border security of Ghana amid increasing threats from active Islamic terrorists across the border. Just three months earlier, he led a high-level diplomatic dialogue with Burkina Faso military leaders to prevent arms flow in northern Ghana.

The death of Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammad has also put a halt on many major environmental reforms. Muhammad was leading the fight against illegal gold mining, a practice that has severely contaminated rivers and destroyed fertile agricultural land in many areas.
