Heatwave Alert: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heat wave in many states on Wednesday. The Meteorological Department said that the temperature is likely to increase by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius during the next five days.
It should be said that the weather agency has also specified the location for the heat wave. In its daily weather bulletin, the department said, “Heat wave is likely over Gangetic West Bengal from today and Odisha from tomorrow.”
At present the maximum temperature is between 40-42 degree Celsius in some areas of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Interior Maharashtra, Odisha and Telangana while other parts of the country are below 40 degree Celsius. Apart from this, temperatures in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Northeast and adjoining East India were 2-3 degrees Celsius above normal limits.
Latest update of IMD
The IMD has predicted a further 2-4 degree Celsius rise in temperature in most parts of the country over the next three days. Apart from this, the IMD has also said that heat wave conditions are likely to be experienced in various parts of West Bengal along Ganga from April 12 to 16 and Odisha from April 13 to 15.
The IMD said, “Maximum temperature (day temperature) is likely to increase gradually by 2-3 degrees Celsius at many places in Odisha districts during the next 2 days and there will be no major change thereafter. During the next 4 days, the maximum temperature (day temperature) is likely to touch 40 degrees Celsius at some places and 3-5 degrees above normal in Odisha districts.”
The Odisha government has also announced to keep schools closed till April 16 in view of the ‘severe conditions of heat wave’ in the state. “In view of extreme heat conditions, Anganwadi centers and all government and private schools up to class 10 will remain closed from Wednesday to April 16,” the release said.
