Gaza Peace Deal: Hostages will be released, PM Modi welcomed Gaza peace plan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed US President Donald Trump’s agreement on the first phase of the peace plan between Israel and Hamas, calling it a step towards lasting peace in the region. Modi also praised the leadership of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a post on Twitter that we welcome the agreement on the first phase of President Trump’s peace plan. This is also a reflection of the strong leadership of Prime Minister Netanyahu. Expressing hope for stability in Gaza, Modi said the release of hostages and increased humanitarian assistance will provide relief to them and pave the way for lasting peace.

India has said that it supports all diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring peace and resolving the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Modi’s statement came hours after Donald Trump announced that both Israel and Hamas have agreed to a US and Qatar brokered deal for the release of hostages and partial troop withdrawal. Under a deal proposed by the Trump administration, Israel and Hamas have agreed to stop fighting in Gaza and release at least some hostages and prisoners.

Israel and Hamas separately ratified the outlines of their agreement, prompting celebration from hostage families in Tel Aviv and cautious hope from some in Gaza. The agreement is the biggest breakthrough months later in a devastating two-year war. Just a day after the second anniversary of the cross-border attack by Hamas militants that led to Israel’s devastating attack on Gaza, an agreement was reached in Egypt on the initial phase of Trump’s 20-point framework to bring peace to the Palestinian territory through indirect talks.
