Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday alleged that Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma is trying to include voters from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in the state’s voter list to save his chair.
Speaking at a party event in Dhubri, Gogoi said, “The people of Assam do not like Sharma and he is the biggest burden for the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party). This is why the Chief Minister is working hard to include the names of people from other states in the voter list.
The Election Commission has ordered a special revision of voter lists considering January 1, 2026 as the eligible date. He appealed to political parties, media and organizations associated with the interests of the state to be aware of the situation and ensure that people from other states do not vote in the upcoming assembly elections.
Gogoi claimed that Chief Minister Sharma is in “deep trouble” at the moment and hence he has contacted AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal. He said, it is very possible that after a few days Asaduddin Owaisi will also come to Assam to provide relief to them.
