Ganesh immersion in Maharashtra killed 5 deaths due to shadow mourning, current and drowning in water, 13 people missing

On Sunday, a 36 -year -old man died while a 36 -year -old person was admitted to the hospital due to an electric shock during the Ganesh statue immersion procession in Mumbai.The incident took place on Khairani Road in Sakinaka around 10.45 am when a hanging electric wire accidentally touched the statue of Ganpati. According to information received from the local police, six devotees standing near the idol received electric shocks.

Local people transported the injured to nearby private hospitals, while one person was rushed to the Municipal Corporation Seven Hills Hospital. The doctors declared Binu Sukumaran Kumaran (36) dead.The remaining five people, Subhanshu Kamat (20), Tushar Gupta (20), Dharmaraj Gupta (49), Karan Kanaujia (14) and Anush Gupta (6) were admitted to Paramount Hospital, where their condition is stated as stable.

He said that two people were swept away in the Bhama river in Vaki Khurd and a shell in Pimplegaon and another person fell into a well in Birwadi of Pune villager.

The official said that the bodies of two of the four people have been recovered so far and the search for the other two is going on. Three people were swept away in a river in Gadegaon in Nanded district. Police said one person was later rescued and the search for the other two is on. He said that four people in Nashik were victims of similar tragedy and the body of one of them was recovered in Sinnar.

Police said three people were swept away in different incidents in Jalgaon and efforts are on to locate them. It said that three people were swept away during the idol immersion in Thane district and a dead body has been recovered so far. According to the police, in another incident, there is a possibility of a person drowning during immersion in Amravati. Officials said that due to continuous rains in different parts of the state, rivers, lakes and other water bodies are in spate, due to which the State Disaster Response Team and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed.
