The Grand Alliance in Bihar has formally declared Rashtriya Janata Dal leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav as its chief ministerial candidate for the 2025 assembly elections. Along with this, the alliance has also made Vikassheel Insaan Party chief Mukesh Sahni the candidate for the post of Deputy Chief Minister.
Journey from Mumbai to politics
Sahni, popularly known as ‘Son of Mallah’, had joined the Grand Alliance in April last year after several weeks of talks.
According to a report in Times of India (2015), Sahni, a resident of Supaul Bazar village in Darbhanga district, was 19 years old when he ran away from home with a friend to Mumbai in 1999. He soon returned to his father Jitan Ram, but left again after six months as he remembered the ‘freedom’ achieved in Mumbai.

After working as a salesman in a cosmetic store in Mumbai, Sahni started a business designing sets for films and TV shows. He soon became successful and started his own company Mukesh Cineworld Pvt. Ltd.
Later, he partnered with big names of the industry like Nitin Desai and Umang Kumar. His biggest break came when Desai hired him to work on the sets of Shahrukh Khan’s film ‘Devdas’.

Speaking to TOI, Sahni proudly revealed that he had also taken part in building the sets of Salman Khan’s comeback film ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ and the popular TV show ‘Bigg Boss’. Sahni had also revealed that she had also worked with Sandeep Khosla while preparing a show for billionaire Mukesh Ambani.
