There is great news for Sikh devotees. Chardham Yatra is about to start in Uttarakhand. During this journey, the doors of Sri Hemkunt Sahib Ji, the holy place of Sikhs, will be opened on May 25. The cupboards of Gurdwara Sri Hemkunt Sahib will be closed on October 10, five months after opening.

Sri Hemkunt Sahib is situated amidst snowy mountains and it has been snowing here for the last four days. Currently there is about 8 feet of snow in Sri Hemkunt Sahib. Gurdwara Shri Hemkunt Sahib Management Trust Chairman Narendrajit Singh Bindra met Chief Secretary Mrs. Radha Raturi at the Secretariat on Thursday and informed on behalf of Gurdwara Trust that the journey of Shri Hemkunt Sahib ji is starting. The state government has also given its consent to it.

A day or two before the start of the Yatra, Nagar Kirtan will be performed from Govind Ghat to Govind Dham and from Govind Dham to Gurdwara Hemkunt Sahib. Pilgrims will reach the shrine on the morning of May 20 and after that the cupboards of Sri Hemkunt Sahib will be opened. Pilgrims should bring essential equipment like rain coat, first aid kit, wind sheet, water, gloves, torch and cell, muffler, warm clothes with boots, scissors, slippers etc.

Gurdwara Hemkunt Sahib is a pilgrimage site located in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, India. It is located in the Himalayan Mountains at an elevation of 4,632 meters (15,200 ft) according to the Survey of India. It can be reached on foot from Gobind Ghat on the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway.
