The French Navy on Sunday completely refuted Pakistani media’s claims that a French commander had confirmed Pakistan’s air superiority over India during the May 2025 air battle. The Navy described these reports as gross misinformation.
What was the claim of Pakistani media?
Pakistan’s Geo TV had published an article, which claimed that French commander Captain Jacquis Launay had confirmed Pakistan’s dominance in the air combat called ‘Operation Sindoor’.
The article also claimed that the Pakistan Air Force was ‘better prepared’ and that the Rafale fighter jet was not shot down due to the technical superiority of the Chinese J-10C fighter.

The incident drew strong criticism online. BJP leader Amit Malviya called it evidence of Pakistan’s ‘desperate misinformation machinery’.
Malviya said that when government institutions start proving their propaganda wrong, it shows how desperate Pakistan’s misinformation machinery has become. Many others similarly criticized Pakistani media, which is known for making baseless claims against India.
This controversy is related to ‘Operation Vermillion’ which took place in May. India had launched this military action in response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack, in which 26 innocent people were killed. This swift action by India caused heavy losses to the Pakistani Army, after which both sides agreed to a ceasefire on the request of Islamabad.
