Four Nepali porters and climbers have died due to altitude-related health problems in separate incidents in the western part of the Himalayan nation of Nepal. Officials gave this information on Monday.
Porters Dil Bahadur Gurung and Samga Ghale and mountaineer Ram Bahadur Thapa Magar died in Manang district of Gandaki province. According to a statement issued by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) under the Home Ministry, Gurung and Ghale were carrying the luggage of foreign climbers when they suffered altitude sickness and later died.
Ram Bahadur Magar was found dead in his hotel room after returning from a trek. In a similar incident, Nepali national Suraj Man Shrestha, who suffered altitude sickness while trekking in Annapurna Base Camp area of Kaski district, died on Saturday in the hotel where he was staying, according to NDRRMA.
Similarly, a 31-year-old Spanish national returning from trekking to the base camp of North Kanchenjunga mountain developed altitude health problem on Saturday. He was rescued from a guest house in Phaktanglung village in Taplejung district, where he was resting.
According to Home Ministry sources, security personnel took him to Kathmandu for treatment the same day. Annapurna region of Kaski district and Mustang district of northern Nepal, both are currently buzzing with thousands of domestic and foreign tourists coming for trekking.
