Former star cricketer Suresh Raina appearing before ED, know which matter is being questioned

Cricketer Suresh Raina appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday for questioning in the money laundering case related to illegal betting on apps. Raina is allegedly involved in the matter through his advertisements. The investigating agency is trying to find out their relationship with an app called 1xbet. Many illegal betting apps are allegedly responsible for cheating crores of rupees from many people and investors or stealing taxes, and the ED is investigating them.

Officials said late on Tuesday that the 38 -year -old cricket star has been summoned by the investigating agency in one such case. Under this investigation, his statement will be recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). As part of an intense effort to clamp down on illegal betting platforms, authorities have issued summons to several public personalities accused of supporting such apps. In May, the Telangana police registered a case against 25 popular actors including Rana Daggubati and Prakash Raj.

Both actors denied any wrongdoing, saying that they no longer propagate such platforms and when they did, their campaigns were limited to only areas where online skill-based sports are legally allowed. Actor Rana Daggubati appeared before the Enforcement Directorate in Hyderabad on Monday in connection with the ongoing investigation of alleged illegal publicity of online betting platform. He was earlier summoned on July 23, but he asked for time, citing film -related busyness, after which his appearance was postponed for August 11.

The ED FIR is also investigating the financial transactions and digital trails of several other celebrities named in the FIR, including actress Manchu Laxmi, Nidhi Aggarwal, Ananya Nagalla and television anchor Srimukhi. Between 2023 and 2024, the authorities also extended the high-profile Mahdev online betting case, including allegations against senior politicians and bureaucrats of Chhattisgarh, including former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, who was accused of being the chief beneficiary.
