Former CM Jagan Reddy attached shares worth ₹ 27.5 crore: ED seized 793 crore land of Dalmia Cement; Action in money laundering case

This action on Reddy has been taken in an old case of 14 -year -old money laundering. In which there are allegations of ‘Kwid Pro Quo’ (giving something instead of getting something).

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has temporarily attached shares worth Rs 27.5 crore to former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. This action has been taken in the 14 -year -old case of money laundering. In which there are allegations of ‘Kwid Pro Quo’ (giving something instead of getting something).

ED’s Hyderabad team has seized investment in Jagan’s three companies – Carmel Asia Holdings, Saraswati Power and Industries Private Limited and Harsha firm. Apart from this, land worth about Rs 377.2 crore of Dalmia Cement (India) Limited (DCBL) has also been seized. According to DCBL, this land is worth Rs 793.3 crore.

The case is related to the case registered by the CBI in 2011, alleging that DCBL invested Rs 95 crore in Raghuram Cements Limited (Company connected to Jagan Reddy). In return, Jagan gave DCBL a mining lease of 407 hectares in Kadappa district of Andhra Pradesh using the influence of his father, then Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy.

CBI filed a charge sheet in 2013

In 2013, CBI filed a charge sheet against Jagan, DCBL and others under the sections of the IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act. It is also alleged that Jagan, his auditor and former MP V Vijay Sai Reddy and DCBL’s Puneet Dalmia together sold Raghuram Cement Share to a French company Parficim for 135 crores. Out of this, 55 crore rupees were given to Jagan in cash through hawala, which came out from the documents found in the raid of the Income Tax Department in Delhi between May 2010 and June 2011.

The office under construction of Jagan Mohan Reddy’s party was demolished by the state government in June 2024. This action was taken by the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA). This office was being made in 9,365 sq ft in Tadepalli, Guntur.

There was a lot of discussion about the timing of this action. In fact, when the YSRCP government was in September 2023 and Jaganmohan Reddi was the CM, TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu was arrested from his house at 6 am. CID arrested Chandrababu on charges of corruption. YSRCP’s office was also broken at 5:30 pm.

Earlier, Hyderabad Metropolitan Corporation (GHMC) broke the illegal construction on the pavement adjacent to Lotus Pond Housing of Reddy. It was being used by security personnel. Apart from this, YSRCP was given another notice for illegal construction of Visakhapatnam Office. This action was taken just 10 days after Reddy resigned as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
