Let it be said that for the first time the policy of reservation is being implemented at the school level for admission in Chandigarh. According to the new policy of the education department, out of 13,875 seats of class 11, about 11,794 seats will be given to children who pass out from government schools. For this a merit list of students will be prepared and based on that they will be admitted. This decision is being considered as a big relief for the students of government schools. Along with this, students who have studied in private schools will now have to struggle to get admission in government schools.

It may be mentioned that due to the less number of senior secondary schools in the city, there is a fight among students for admission to class 11. The people of the city complained that children from the city are not getting admission in the school due to centralized admission, while students from outside Chandigarh get admission in the school. To prevent this from happening, the department has reserved 85 percent seats for pass out students from government schools in Chandigarh.

Merit list of passed out students from private schools of Chandigarh and other states and boards will be prepared for 15 percent of the total seats or about 2081 seats. If the seats remain in reserved categories they will be converted to general category. After the 10th result the prospectus of the schools will be uploaded on the department website https://www.chdeducation.gov.in. The registration fee will be Rs.200.

In fact, Class 12 students in Chandigarh get 85 percent reservation for admission in all undergraduate courses including BA, BBA, B.Com, BCA (all science and maths courses), fine arts in a total of 15 colleges in the city. In such a situation, every year a large number of children from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and other parts of the country used to get admission in Chandigarh schools in the eleventh standard to get higher education from Chandigarh colleges.

Because of this, children studying in Chandigarh schools could not get admission. The parents’ association of the city and the parents, school administrators have long been demanding that reservation should be given to the children of the city for admission in class XI. The administration has now taken a decision on this and given a big relief to the parents and children of the city.

Let us tell that in 11th there are 3080 seats in science (medical, non-medical), 1980 in commerce, 7060 in arts, 1755 seats in elective/skill courses. Altogether there are 13875 seats in all faculties.

Director of School Education Chandigarh Dr. HS Brar says that 85 percent seats will be reserved for admission to class 11 for children studying in government schools. Admission will be done on the basis of merit.
