BJP’s 25-year-old folk singer and first-time candidate Maithili Thakur from Alinagar celebrated her first election victory by singing a traditional congratulatory song. Reacting to the NDA’s landslide victory, he said he was always confident in the results and expressed his gratitude for the “family-like love” received by the voters. Maithili also reiterated her resolve to serve as ‘daughter of the soil’ for the next five years.

Maithili Thakur, who contested the elections for the first time, won the Alinagar assembly seat. He secured around 85,000 votes and defeated his nearest rival—Vinod Mishra of RJD—Defeated by over 11,000 votes.
There was no doubt from day one
Maithili said that she was confident of public support from the beginning. Describing her political journey as “unexpected but extremely satisfying”, she said that many people tried to stop her when she entered politics at the age of 25, but she considered it an opportunity to prove herself.

She said, “People used to tell me that I am only 25 years old, but in the times to come, I will show my potential. The voters have adopted me like a daughter and I have always tried to connect with them, not like an ordinary politician, but like my people.”
“Music will always be a part of me”
Maithili clarified that despite being in public service, music will remain an integral part of her life. He said, “Many people leave their profession as soon as they enter politics, but I am fortunate that my music will grow with me.”
According to her, politics is a broad medium to serve the people by understanding their needs and she wants to set an example in her field as a responsible representative.

While getting a big lead in the trends, Maithili celebrated the victory with her supporters by singing “Badhaiya Baje Aangan Mein”.
