Officials issued a flood warning on Wednesday in Jammu and Kashmir. The Jhelum River has crossed the danger mark at the confluence of Anantnag and Pampore. At least two people died due to continuous rains for two days, dozens of people are stranded and major highways are closed. The Chenab river in Akhnoor is in spate due to continuous heavy rains in the Union Territory, causing the village of Gankhal. Villagers trapped in Gankhal village are being taken to safe places by the Indian Army and NDRF.
Officials said that the water level in Sangam has crossed a significant level of 25 feet, while the river is flowing above the danger mark in Pampore, which has increased the possibility of flooding in many low -lying areas. In the city of Srinagar, the water level of the river in Ram Munshibagh has reached close to a warning mark of 18 feet. The rains in Jammu since Tuesday evening have created flood -like conditions. The administration has issued flood warnings and advised people not to go near any reservoir.

According to the Department of Irrigation and Flood Control, the water level in the area is increasing and if the rains continue, it will increase even more. The department said in a post on X, “All concerned officials are requested to be cautious and take necessary steps … All the officers on flood duty should reach their posts immediately.” Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam districts of South Kashmir have been flooded due to heavy rains. Police and disaster management teams have started rescue operations, while emergency help lines have been activated in sensitive areas.

A woman and her daughter died after a house collapsed after heavy rains in Sundarbani in Rajouri. The police rescued 25 Banjara families trapped under a bridge due to rising water level after heavy rains in Anantnag district. Due to heavy rains for the last 24 hours, many areas of South Kashmir including Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam have been flooded. A spokesperson of Anantnag District Police said in a post on the social media forum ‘X’, “Anantnag police conducted a fast rescue operation in Ang Anjwala and took out 25 Banjara families trapped safely due to sudden rise in water level in Liddar drain.”
