Flood form in Punjab! 43 people died, AAP MP gave 5 crore for help, relief package of ten thousand crores sought from Center

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahni has promised Rs 5 crore for the flood relief works of Punjab. For this, he has raised funds allocated under the MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) and his personal contribution. Sahni announced that a part of this amount would be spent on the construction of embankments for the protection of advanced rescue boats, modern silt extract machines and future disasters. Through its non-governmental organization, Sun Foundation, Sahni has already spent more than Rs 1 crore on motorboats, ambulances, drought ration kits, medical supply, hygiene materials and animal feed. He also assured to provide fertilizer, seeds and pesticides to marginal farmers for the next sowing cycle. In order to urge the central assistance, Sahni demanded a relief package of Rs 10,000 crore, which proposed a compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre for farmers facing crop losses as well as financial assistance for daily wage laborers and livestock.

The rising water level in Bhakra and Pong dams

The administration in Punjab is on high alert as the water level of Bhakra Dam has reached 1,679 feet, which is only one feet less than its maximum capacity. As the water flow increases, the Rupnagar administration has issued an alert to the residents around the Sutlej River and urged to go to safe areas and relief camps immediately. The Pong Dam has also exceeded its capacity, where the water flow has reached 1.32 lakh cusecs, causing a large amount of water to release. Officials have warned that the flow of water from Bhakra may increase to 80,000-85,000 cusecs, which may increase the risk of flooding in low-lying areas.

The number of dead exceeded 43

The flood disaster released in Punjab has so far killed 43 people in 14 districts, while three people are missing in Pathankot. The crops standing on 1.71 lakh hectares of agricultural land have been destroyed, which has destroyed the agricultural economy of the state. The flood has submerged 1,902 villages of 23 districts, affecting more than 3.84 lakh residents. Disaster redemption forces and local administration have brought around 21,000 people to safe places.

Destructive floods in Punjab, 43 killed

The death toll in the devastating floods in Punjab increased to 43 on Thursday, while the crops in 1.71 lakh hectares have been destroyed. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan visited flood affected areas of Punjab on Thursday and took stock of the damage caused to crops. Describing it as the status of the water holocaust, Chauhan assured the farmers that the Center would make every effort to get them out of this crisis. Chauhan visited flood affected areas of Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Kapurthala districts and interacted with flood affected farmers and others. He said that two central parties are also visiting Punjab to assess the situation arising out of floods and later these parties will submit their reports to the Center.

110 km long fence on international border in Punjab, Jammu due to flood

Floods in the advance areas of Punjab and Jammu have damaged more than 110 km of India-Pakistan international border and about 90 BSF posts are submerged. Official sources gave this information on Thursday. The international border is 2,289 km long, which passes through the states of Rajasthan and Gujarat in the western part of the country. BSF guards about 192 km in Jammu and 553 km in Punjab.

90 BSF posts damaged

Officials said that about 80 km long fence on the international border in Punjab and about 30 km long in Jammu have been damaged due to floods. The fence in these places is either submerged, uprooted or bowed down. Floods have been damaged or submerged in Jammu’s Border Security Force (BSF) and 65-67 posts in Punjab. Several advance defense posts of BSF or monitoring posts located at height have also been affected.

An official said that the BSF has now launched a major campaign to restore fences and border posts in both these areas so that the soldiers can be re -deployed there. He said that in these affected areas, drones are being monitored with electronic surveillance of the international border with large searchlight and patrolling with boats. The water is decreasing and BSF personnel will soon be posted there. A few days ago, a BSF jawan drowned in flood waters in Jammu. Punjab has been facing the most severe floods since 1988, while Jammu has received record breaking rains where the Tawi river has submerged hundreds of houses and several hectares of agricultural land.
