The Maharashtra Fisheries Department has seized 2.4 tonnes of illegally farmed African fish in the backwaters of Ujani reservoir in Pune district and destroyed its stock. Officials gave this information on Saturday.
According to a statement issued by the department, this action was taken on Thursday in Kalthan number two village of Indapur. Officials found that banned species of fish were being farmed despite earlier warnings to the owners of the fishery centre. A team led by Fisheries Assistant Commissioner Archana Shinde carried out this campaign. The African fish is commonly known as the African Mangur.
