Clashes broke out again on Tuesday night on the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan, in which there have been reports of deaths of soldiers and civilians. Let us tell you that both the countries agreed to a ceasefire for 48 hours, which was requested by each other.
According to current information, a few hours after the clashes, Pakistan launched air strikes on the Afghan capital Kabul and Kandahar province. Pakistan’s army said that two major Taliban attacks in Spin Boldak area of southern Kandahar and on the north-western border were foiled, in which about 20 Taliban were killed. About 30 more people were killed in overnight clashes on the north-western border.
Afghan officials said 15 civilians were killed and dozens injured in new violence along the border. At the same time, six paramilitary soldiers were killed and many injured in Orakzai district of Pakistan. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid accused Pakistani forces of carrying out attacks with light and heavy weapons.
It is noteworthy that this clash is also an impact of the events of last weekend, when Afghanistan attacked Pakistan in response to the attack in Kabul. Pakistan responded with “unprovoked” firing in the northwestern Kurram area, killing several Taliban and destroying their hideouts and a tank. Afghan forces also killed several Pakistani soldiers and seized weapons and tanks.
A mortar attack in the Spin Boldak area killed 15 civilians and injured more than 80 women and children, according to local spokesman Ali Mohammad Hakamal. Some tension has eased after the mediation of Qatar and Saudi Arabia, but the situation on the border is still delicate and civil security remains challenging.
