The final result of UPSC Civil Service Examination has been released on 22 April. Since then, the name of Gautam Singh of Jaunpur is viral on social media, who has secured 526th rank. Actually, he has received this rank under EWS i.e. Economic Vicker Section category, while claiming that he comes from a competent family.
Gautam’s grandfather self. Tribhuvan Singh established a school Nehru Balodhan Inter College, Kanhaipur in Jaunpur. His father Dr. CD Singh is the chairman of Nehru Balodian School in Jaunpur.

This is not the first time. Almost every year, claims of capable candidates from EWS category to clear UPSC are made on social media.
Anu Beniwal, a resident of Pitampura, Delhi, is a 2022 batch IPS. He was ranked 217th. Anu has been selected in the EWS category. It was claimed that she is the daughter of IPS Sanjay Beniwal, how the daughter of a retired IPS was selected under EWS.

The Government of India has fixed some special economic and property parameters to get reservation under the EWS category. These reservation generals are given to those candidates of unreserved category who are not socially or educationally backward, but are economically weak.

The candidates’ parents are checked for the OBC creamy, while the income of both parents and candidates is checked for EWS CRITeria.
Candidates remain in EWS based on annual income
According to Criteria, the total income of the candidate’s family in the last financial year should not exceed 8 lakhs. For example, if the father earns 50 thousand months, then the year -long salary will be 6 lakhs. At the same time, the mother earns 20 thousand every month, then the annual will be 2 lakh 40 thousand one year income.
Now this income candidate has been more than 40 thousand rupees for coming to the EWS category. So in such a situation, the candidate tells his mother to take 3 months’ leave to come to EWS Slab. This should be the leave of leave pay (LWP). Then as soon as 3 months leave, the mother’s income will be 1 lakh 80 thousand and the income of the family will be 8 lakh to 20 thousand less i.e. 7.8 lakhs. Now this person will be eligible for the EWS category.
Candidates remain in EWS category with EOL
Suppose the same candidate was cleared and selected for IPS by clearing the UPSC exam. But he has to re -enter the IAS. The initial salary of IPS is 70 thousand rupees per month. In such a situation, his annual salary will be 8.4 lakh rupees. At the same time, the total income of the family will be paid Rs 16.8 lakh. That is, the candidate will be out of EWS Slab.
In this condition, the candidates take extra ordinary leave i.e. EOL while in the government. Eol is available for 1 year and often during this period the candidates again join the UPSC CSE.
EOL is a kind of leave on the bidout. In this way, the candidate does not get salary and the mother again joins the EWS category by giving 3 months leave. After the Eol is over, the candidates sometimes give the mother a resignation and asks the father to stay on leave for a few months, so that he remains in EWS.
