PM Modi and Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Kanel Bermudage discussed methods to strengthen bilateral relations in major areas such as the drug sector, biotechnology, traditional medicine and digital public infrastructure during a meeting on Sunday. The two leaders also exchanged ideas on increasing cooperation in various fields including Ayurveda, Unified Payment Interface (UPI), disaster management and efficiency development. The statement stated that the two leaders agreed to work on issues including the areas of health, epidemic and climate change which are a matter of concern for ‘Global South’, which said that they appreciated cooperation between the two countries in the multilateral field.

Global South refers to countries that are considered less developed in terms of technology and social development. These countries are mainly located in the southern hemisphere. This includes countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal wrote on the social media forum X that Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canal Bermudes on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Summit at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He said that the two leaders exchanged various aspects of India-Cuba relations including economic cooperation, biotechnology, medicine, Ayurveda and traditional medicine, digital public infrastructure and the areas of UPI, Disaster Management and Efficiency Development.
