Eight people died on Sunday due to heavy rains in many parts of Maharashtra, most of whom died due to lightning. The officers provided this information.

The Meteorological Department has released ‘Red Alert’ for coastal districts like Ratnagiri and Raigad and ‘Orange Alert’ for Palghar, Thane, Sindhudurg and Ghat in Pune, Satara and Kolhapur. The team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been deployed for relief and rescue operations.

According to the report of the State Disaster Management Department, Ratnagiri recorded the highest rainfall in the last 24 hours till 11 am. This was followed by 65.3 mm in Raigad, 43.8 mm in Sindhudurg, 29.6 mm in Thane and 27.5 mm in Yavatmal.

Officials said that eight people have died and ten people have been injured in different parts of the state. There were incidents of deaths in Mumbai, Sindhudurg, Dhule, Nashik, Sambhajinagar, Nandurbar and Amravati, most of which died due to lightning.

The Jagburi river of Ratnagiri district is flowing above the warning level in the major rivers of the Konkan region. The disaster management report states that if the water level rises further, the villages, Alsure, Chinchghar and Prabhu can be affected.
