There is a possibility of about 14,000 additional polling stations before the 2026 assembly elections in West Bengal. Officials said on Saturday that the Election Commission is calling an all -party meeting on August 29 to discuss the proposed reorganization of polling stations. A CEO office official said booths with more than 1,200 voters have already been identified. These will be divided to ensure smooth voting. There is a possibility that the number of booths will increase by 14,000 more. During the all -party meeting, we will discuss the rationalization of booths with political parties. With the joining of about 14,000 new booths, the total number is expected to reach 92,000.

On August 29, at 3.30 pm, the reaction of political parties will be taken on the allotment of the revised booth in the all -party meeting to be held at the CEO office. Political circles believe that this expansion will withstand organizational challenges, especially for opposition parties, which may be difficult to deploy booth-tier agents (BLA) in an increased booth number. Significantly, the development took place in the backdrop of disciplinary action against four officials in West Bengal.

Significantly, the development took place in the backdrop of disciplinary action against four officers for the alleged lapse in the voter list amendment in West Bengal. The state government suspended two EROs and two assistant EROs from South 24 Parganas and East Medinipur districts and started departmental proceedings, but did not register an FIR against them as directed by the Election Commission.
