Dudhia alternative bridge ready in North Bengal, traffic will be restored from Monday: Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday announced the completion of the construction of an alternative bridge being built with ‘hume pipe’ in Dudhia. This bridge will connect Mirik in Darjeeling district to Siliguri.

Various infrastructure and roads were damaged in incidents of landslides triggered by heavy rains in Darjeeling district earlier this month. Mamata said that normal traffic on the temporary bridge will be restored from Monday.

In a post on ‘Facebook’, he said that through continuous work in challenging conditions, the construction work of the 468 meter long bridge was completed within 16 days. According to officials, a total of 132 ‘hume pipes’ of 1200 mm diameter have been used in the construction of this police.
