Drug worth Rs 6.18 lakh recovered in Palghar, five arrested

In Palghar district of Maharashtra, police have seized LSD and hemp worth Rs 6.18 lakh in two separate campaigns and arrested five people. An official gave this information on Saturday.

An official said that Meera Bhayander-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police took this action last week as part of its anti-narcotics campaign. Assistant Police Commissioner (Crime) Madan Ballal said, “Vasai Crime Branch conducted two major campaigns in Palghar district, in which five accused were arrested and drugs worth Rs 6.18 lakh were seized.”

On the basis of confidential information, a team near Vasai West stopped two suspects and recovered 0.440 mg LSD paper (an artificial hallucinations) worth Rs 4.40 lakh from their possession.

Ballal said that a case has been registered against the accused Dev Pankaj Modi (27) and Sohail Yusuf Syed (28) under the Self -Effective Drug and Mana: Effective Material (NDPS) Act.

Police raided a campus in Kaman village of Vasai taluka on 25 September and caught a man and two women with 8.111 kg of cannabis. The estimated value of cannabis has been stated to be Rs 1.78 lakh.

He said that the arrested accused have been identified as Sunil Subhash Pawar (38), his wife Asha (35) and Priyanka Santosh Kansare (26) and a case has been registered at the Nigaon police station.
