This response to the Chief Minister came a day after former state Congress President Nana Patole created a fresh political storm, that top ministers and senior IAS and IPS officers may have been targeted in a honeytrap operation, which has shook the state in recent times. Talking to reporters, Patole claimed that the actual number of officers trapped in this scandal is more than the number being stated. Patole said that the information we have received about this honeytrap case is very serious. In such cases confidential government documents may be handed over to anti-national elements, which will be a major security lapse. It should be investigated in depth by the police.

Speaking in the Assembly, Patole claimed that all the evidence related to the allegations was present in a pen drive, and insisted that the issue has not yet made any statement despite the issue being public for some time. He alleged that Thane, Nashik and the Ministry (State Secretariat) have become the center of the honeytrap, but the government has not paid attention to it. The dispute increased further when media reports claimed that several senior officials in Maharashtra were blackmailed by a woman and allegedly threatened to register fake rape cases and demanded forcibly recovery.
