An all-party meeting convened by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK leader MK Stalin on Sunday decided to approach the Supreme Court against the second phase of special intensive revision of voter lists in 12 states and union territories, including Tamil Nadu. Sharing a post, MK Stalin announced the proposal and alleged that the aim behind the SIR process is to take away people’s franchise. He wrote that it is the duty of all parties to raise their voice unitedly against the SIR being hastily implemented with the intention of snatching away the voting rights of the people of Tamil Nadu and killing democracy.

MK Stalin further said, “With regard to the confusion and doubts in the electoral roll amendments – since our demand that these amendments be made in sufficient time and without any problem after the 2026 general elections has not been accepted by the Election Commission, we have passed a resolution in today’s all-party meeting to approach the Supreme Court.” Stalin also thanked the 49 parties participating in the meeting for “protecting democracy”. It was written in the post that I express my gratitude to the leaders of 49 parties who participated in the all-party meeting and expressed their sentiments. I request those who have not participated in this meeting to discuss SIR in their parties and take initiative to protect democracy.
DMK leader RS Bharati described the SIR as an exercise to “indirectly” implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC). “We are opposing it because it is being implemented with some ulterior motive. This is not SIR. It is like indirectly including NRC. We are going to the Supreme Court,” he said. Taking aim at the parties that did not attend the meeting, Bharti described them as “BJP’s alliance”. “We don’t care about them. They are all in the BJP alliance. That’s why they did not come,” he said.
