Dismissal of teachers should be done through courts: Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah on dismissal of teachers

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday expressed concern over the recent dismissal of two government school teachers on charges of radicalizing youth and working for Lashkar-e-Taiba. He stressed the importance of following due process and giving individuals the opportunity to defend themselves in court. Abdullah said that I have always said this, and I repeat it again. Dismissal should be through the courts. Everyone should get a chance to explain themselves.

Omar Abdullah said that everyone should get a chance to explain themselves. This system being used to fire employees does not give them a chance to explain themselves… Therefore, it would be better to use the courts to punish those who are actually guilty. But I feel that any action taken against him merely on the basis of suspicion will prove detrimental to all of us.”“Guilty can be proven only in court, not otherwise,” JKNC quoted Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as saying in a post on social media.
“The Lieutenant Governor is satisfied under sub-clause (c) of clause (2) of Article 311 of the Constitution of India that in the interest of the security of the State, it is not expedient to hold an inquiry into the case of Majid Iqbal Dar, son of late Mohammad Iqbal Dar, resident of Ward No. 1, Kheora, District Rajouri, teacher in the School Education Department,” the Jammu and Kashmir government’s General Administration Department (CAD) said in an order on Thursday. “Accordingly, the Lieutenant Governor dismisses Majid Iqbal Dar, teacher in the School Education Department, from service with immediate effect,” the order signed by the Commissioner of the General Administration Department said.
