Pakistan’s Punjab Police confirmed that Shahrez Khan, nephew of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was jailed, was arrested in the riots of May 9, 2023, not abducted, as claimed. Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party claimed in a statement that Shahrej Khan was abducted from his house here. Alima Khan has been openly criticizing the military establishment. Earlier, he had told the media that Imran Khan had told his party members that if the Pakistani Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir does anything, they should hold him responsible. Alima Khan, a 72 -year -old cricketer -turned -politician, has been in jail since August 2023, as he has been booked in several cases. Senior PTI leader and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur condemned the incident and demanded immediate release of Sharez. He severely criticized Alima Khan’s son Shahrez’s kidnapping from her house in plain clothes.
