About 200 villages in Rupnagar district have been struggling for canal water for the last three and a half years. Panchayats of these villages located in the area from Nangal Dam Mojoswal to Tibba Tapariya village of Nurpur Bedi block passed a proposal for canal construction and sent it to the government

Today, a demonstration was held at Kiratpur Sahib Lokhand under the leadership of Gaurav Rana, Conviner of Punjab Morcha. Senior leader of Punjab Morcha Kuldeep Singh Rana said that while the water of Punjab is being given to other states on the one hand, the villages of their own state are thirsty.

67 panchayats of Nurpur Bedi block have passed resolutions demanding canal construction from Upper Ghat. Leaders say that during the water dispute between Punjab and Haryana, attention should be paid to the thirst of its villages of Punjab.

Rana said that if all the villages of Punjab are linked to canal water, then there will be no objection to sending the remaining water to other states. He has demanded that the government take this issue seriously and start canal construction work as soon as possible.
