Arunachal Pradesh Police said on Thursday that they have caught a gang involved in recruitment of militants, smuggling arms and cross -border crimes in the state.
The Senior Police Officer said that the gang was connected to the National Socialist Council for Tainland (NSCT) and its armed branch United Tani Army (UTA).
Demand for people of Tani community, Taniland should be made
Tanland is the name of a proposed state, which is to be made for the people of the Tani community. The community lives in the north-eastern areas of India, especially in the border of Assam. Many organizations have demanded to build Tanland.
The police started investigation in January due to threatening videos and messages spread on social media. This video and message was released by NSCT leader Anthony Doke. Anthony is already undergoing case in 20 cases.
Police registered a case under BNS and UAPA
Superintendent of Police Rohit Rajbir Singh said that a case has been registered in this case under several sections of the Code of Justice of India (BNS) and the illegal activity Prevention Act (UAPA).
Some people have also been arrested, who were recruiting the youth in the United Tani Army (UTA) and were involved in weapons illegal activities.
The Superintendent of Police said that intelligence information revealed that some people had included a small boy from the Taraso area of Papum Pare district in the militant training camp in Myanmar. Further investigation revealed that three more boys were taken out of Itanagar to forcibly recruit in UTA.
The SP reported that two of them have returned. He was tortured physical and mental during forcibly training and had to live in a very bad situation.
He informed that the charge sheet in this case has already been filed, although the investigation is still going on.
People arrested, weapons also recovered
On April 30, the police arrested a person. He was associated with NSCN-KYA (NSCN-Kya) and was forcibly collecting funds from contractors and collecting funds for extremist activities. Arms and bullets were also recovered from him.
During interrogation, the arrested person said that there is a weapon smuggling network in Itanagar, which is related to Nagaland militant organizations.
The SP said that after this more people were arrested, weapons were recovered and cash without account was also received.
Arms racket relations with drug trafficking
The SP said, another case has been registered at Itanagar police station. In which action was taken under the sections of BNS, UAPA and sections of 13 Arms Act. It aims to target the network involved in distribution and hiding illegal weapons.
He said that during the investigation, it was found that the arms racket was related to a drug smuggling network. Who was working in the Gohpur-Chimpu corridor near Itanagar. A third case was registered under the NDPS Act at Chimpu Police Station. Two persons were arrested and drugs were also seized in action.
