An order issued a few days after the Delhi government lifted the ban on diesel cars more than 10 years old and the ban on petrol cars more than 15 years old said that no fuel will be given to vehicles coming in these categories from November 1. The fuel ban will also apply in five districts of the National Capital Region (NCR) on the same day. The CAQM (Air Quality Management Commission) official said, “Instructions will be amended. This means that from 1 November, a ban on giving diesel petrol to old vehicles will also apply to Delhi as well as in important cities of NCR like Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar (Noida), Gurugram and Sonipat. On July 1, the Delhi government launched a major campaign to deal with air pollution, under which fuel supply to old vehicles was banned. According to the government order, petrol pumps will not fuel diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years. Directed by the Air Quality Management Commission, an automatic camera system was installed to detect the age of vehicles at fuel stations. Traffic police were also empowered to seize vehicles violating or issue challans.

Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had said that his government would urge the Supreme Court to allow it to implement uniform rules in the national capital like the entire country for vehicles who have completed the period. Last week, the Delhi government urged the Center’s Air Quality Commission to immediately postpone the fuel ban on vehicles who have completed the period. The government had said that the government would “effort” to solve problems related to the ban on vehicles that have completed the term.
