Delhi Capitals made David Warner their captain

Experienced Australian opener David Warner has been appointed as the captain of Delhi Capitals for IPL 2023. One of the hottest players in the IPL, Warner will replace Rishabh Pant in the upcoming season. Pant has been away from cricket action since a serious car accident in December. Delhi Capitals announced Warner’s captaincy on Thursday (March 16).

Warner, the third highest run-scorer in the IPL, had earlier captained Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016. The left-handed batsman has so far scored 5668 runs in 155 matches in the IPL at an impressive strike rate of 140.58.

Delhi Capitals have appointed Indian team’s star all-rounder Akshar Patel as the vice-captain for the upcoming season. Akshar Patel will be seen in a leadership role for the first time in the IPL. Akshar Patel has excelled in IPL and international cricket over the years and is one of the key players for Delhi.

In their official press release, Delhi Capitals said, ‘Delhi Capitals, co-owned by JSW-GMR, today announced that Australian batsman David Warner will captain the upcoming IPL. Warner will take over the captaincy from Rishabh Pant, who is currently undergoing rehab. Meanwhile, Akshar Patel has been made the vice-captain of Delhi Capitals.

The release further said, ‘The franchise has also announced that former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly will be the Director of Cricket for Delhi Capitals. Ganguly has been associated with Delhi Capitals before, when he was Bhumika’s mentor. Delhi Capitals team will play their first match on April 1 against Lucknow Supergiants.
