The death toll in Indonesia’s western Java province on Friday has increased to at least 14 in the incident of a mine collapse. Officials gave this information on Saturday.
More than two dozen people were trapped in the rubble due to the Gunung Kuda mine collapsed in Saibone district. Initially, rescuers took out a dozen injured people and 10 bodies from the rubble during the search operation.
The National Search and Rescue Agency said in a statement that three more bodies were recovered on Friday night and another employee died in the hospital, leading to the death toll to 14. Five seriously injured people are hospitalized.
The local television channel showed emergency employees, policemen, soldiers and volunteers in rescue operations on Saturday morning with the help of five excavation machines. The authorities said that six to eight people are still feared to be stranded. Local police chief Sumanni said, “The officials are investigating the reason for the mine being sown.” We are interrogating six people, including the owner of the mine.
