Death of former DGP’s son, an inquiry may be handed over to CBI, Haryana government wrote a letter to the Centre

The investigation into the suspicious death of Aqeel Akhtar, son of former Punjab DGP Muhammad Mustafa, may be handed over to the CBI. The Haryana government has written a letter to the Home Ministry in this regard.

Aqeel Akhtar (35) died late on October 16 at his house in Sector 4, Panchkula. After Akil’s death, Shamsuddin, a resident of Model Town, Malerkotla, Punjab, filed a complaint with the Panchkula Commissioner on October 17. After this, the police registered a case under the sections of murder and criminal conspiracy against the former DGP of Punjab Muhammad Mustafa, his wife and former minister Razia Sultana and the wife and sister of the deceased at the MDC police station in Panchkula.

The SIT formed by the Haryana Police to investigate the matter had summoned former DGP Muhammad Mustafa to join the investigation, but he did not appear. SIT chief ACP Vikram Nehra said that the priority of the investigation is to ascertain the cause of death of Akhil Akhtar. He said that Akil’s medical history will be examined and every aspect is being thoroughly investigated.

After the death of his son, Muhammad Mustafa said that he is being defamed as part of a conspiracy. His son was mentally ill and his opponents were plotting against him using this as a shield but they would not succeed. The former DGP made this statement while talking to the media in his village. He said the allegations made in a video released by his son, Aqeel Akhtar, before his suicide, were false. He categorically denied all the allegations. He said that his son was struggling with drug addiction and mental instability for the last 18 years. He was expelled from college several times and also beat his wife several times.
