A 20-year-old deaf and mute woman was allegedly raped by a man in Kolkata in the early hours of Saturday, following which the accused was arrested. Police gave this information.
A senior official said the arrest was made soon after the FIR was registered in connection with the alleged incident. He said that the incident took place at around 12:30 am in Nadiyal area in the south-west part of the city.
The officer said that the woman has been admitted to the local hospital, where her medical examination is being done. Without giving details of the incident, he said that based on specific information, officials of Nadiyal police station conducted a raid and arrested the accused at around 6:35 am on Saturday. The accused is currently being interrogated and will be produced before a local court later, the officer said.
