Crisis of demographic change in Assam, CM Sarma said – Miyan Muslim population will be 38%

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said the state has undergone a demographic transformation and the upcoming census data will show that the Muslim population has increased to 38 per cent, up from about 34 per cent recorded in 2011. When the census is conducted in Assam and the census report is published, the Mia Muslim population in Assam will increase to 38 percent, mark my words, she told media persons after participating in the Chief Minister Mahila Entrepreneurship Campaign (MMUA) program in Dibrugarh. If estimated, their (Muslim) population would be 38 per cent of the total population of Assam and they would become the largest community in Assam.

Reiterating his commitment towards the protection of indigenous people in the state, Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that the state government is going to bring two important bills which will protect the people’s Jati, Mati and Bheti (caste, land and foundation). He said that we will bring two important bills in the upcoming Assam Assembly session to solve such problems. We will bring these two important bills to protect caste, soil and property. If we had tried to do the same thing in the last 30 years that we did in the last 5 years, perhaps we would not have to face this crisis today.

He further said that now a fight has started and we have to take it towards our desired goal. We have to continue this fight for the next 10 years. According to the 2011 census report, the Muslim population in Assam was 34.22 percent of the total population of the state. At the event, Chief Minister Sarma met women entrepreneurs in Dibrugarh and gave away around Rs 10,000 to more than 14,000 women through MMUA Seed Fund. Chief Minister Sarma posted on
