The case came in front of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vaibhav Chaurasia, who heard detailed arguments of the complainant side. The court said that the arguments of the petitioner side have been fulfilled and the next hearing of the case was fixed on 10 September. Senior advocates Anil Soni and Pawan Narang appeared on behalf of the complainant. Advocate Narang argued that the issue is not political but legal, and emphasized that the alleged act is a “cognizable offense” which is necessary police investigation.
According to the complaint, Originally Italian citizen Sonia Gandhi became an Indian citizen under Section 5 of the Citizenship Act on 30 April 1983. However, his name was included in the voter list of New Delhi parliamentary constituency in 1981-82, which raised questions on the documents submitted to the Election Commission at that time. Advocate Narang said that Sonia Gandhi’s name, along with her late brother -in -law Sanjay Gandhi, was removed from the voter list in 1982. He argued that such a deletion shows that his pre -entry into the voter list was irregular, as only Indian citizens deserve nominees as voters.

Citing documents, Narang said that fake or false documents may have been used to register their names in the voter list before citizenship is provided. He told the court, “A public authority has been misled, and seems to be cheated.” He further argued that despite complaining to Delhi Police and senior officials, no action was taken, so that the petitioner had no option but to knock the court. Therefore, the petition has demanded to register an FIR and investigate the investigation of alleged crimes.
